How do I clear my web browser's cookies?
About cookies, cache, and history
Each time you access a file through your web browser, the browser caches (i.e., stores) it. By doing this, the browser doesn't have to newly retrieve files (including any images) from the remote web site each time you click the "Back" or "Forward" buttons. It's typically not necessary to clear your browser's cache as most modern browsers manage this for you automatically.
A cookie is a file created by a web browser, at the request of a web site, that is then stored on a computer. These files typically store user-specific information such as selections in a form, shopping cart contents, or authentication data. 17hats uses cookies to keep track of "where you are" in the app, and "who you are" (e.g. which User you're logged in as). Browsers will normally clear cookies that reach a certain age, but clearing them manually will often resolve strange behaviours you see in web apps like 17hats. This trick works outside of 17hats too! Next time you're having a strange problem on a website that you haven't seen before, try clearing your browser's cookies, reload the page, and see if the problem is fixed. Some browsers allow you to clear cookies from specific websites - this is helpful to avoid getting logged out of everything when you clear cookies (the instructions below note when this is possible).
A browser's history is a log of sites that you visit. When you press a browser's Back button, you are moving back one entry in the history log. There's not normally a functional reason to clear your browser's history, but you may want to occasionally clear it manually for privacy reasons.
