Connecting your email address will allow 17hats to record your correspondences with contacts whether you choose to send the messages through our platform or your regular email inbox.

In order to connect, your email provider must use IMAP email addresses. If your email is POP only, we will be unable to establish a connection as POP servers were the first e-mail protocol created in the 80's and have now become outdated.

The main difference between the two, is that POP servers will not save a copy of each message. Meaning, if you open the e-mail on your phone, there is not a saved copy of the e-mail anywhere else, so you will have difficulty pulling the same e-mail elsewhere (like a computer or tablet). IMAP servers on the other hand, do have a saved copy, so you can open/access the e-mails from anywhere/multiple times.

Once you've verified your email account is set up with IMAP settings you can connect your Incoming and Outgoing Email.

Incoming Server

To sync your incoming email, first navigate to Account Settings > Email Settings. The Incoming Email Connection is listed first on your page:

Next, Click on the "Connect Account" button in the top right corner of the Incoming Email Section. For HostGator, click the "other" option at the bottom of the "email provider" drop-down.

Next, enter your HostGator Login and Password. You will then need to get your specific server name from HostGator. To find this, check your HostGator welcome email. HostGator Shared hosting customers can also find the server name listed inside of the HostGator cPanel. For more specifics, please visit HostGators help article by clicking here

Once you've gotten your Server name, try the following settings:

Option 1:

  • IMAP Server: Your server name found previously in your HostGator welcome email or cPanel.

  • Port: 993

  • SSL: SSL/TLS

Option 2:

  • IMAP Server: mail.example.com - Note: replace example.com with your server name found previously in your HostGator welcome email or cPanel.

  • Port: 143

  • SSL: None

Outgoing Email Server

You'll follow the same steps to connect your Outgoing Email Server as you did to connect your incoming email.

Simply click the "change outgoing settings" button and select the "other" option at the bottom of the "email provider" drop-down.

Next, enter your HostGator Login and Password. Just as before, you'll need to get your sever name listed in your HostGator Welcome email or cPanel. Then, enter the following settings in the subsequent fields.

Option 1:

  • SMTP Server: Your server name found previously in your HostGator welcome email or cPanel.

  • Port: 465

  • SSL: SSL/TLS

Option 2:

  • SMTP Server: mail.example.com - Note: replace example.com with your server name found previously in your HostGator welcome email or cPanel.

  • Port: 25 or 26

  • SSL: None

You can also decide to use the 17hats outgoing mail server, but we recommend using your own to increase your emails deliverability rate. Learn more about email delivery here.

The Server, Port, and SSL information was found in HostGators Email Connection Settings article. You can find this information if needed by clicking here.
