If you are connected to Stripe as your payment processor, the 17hats Bookkeeping view shows credit card and ACH processing fees to better help you manage your bookkeeping.


What is a credit card or ACH processing fee?

When you are connected to a company like Stripe or Square and allow your clients to pay via a credit card or via ACH, Stripe or Square charges a fee for that convenience. You can read more about these fees under Account Settings --> Invoice Options.

Typically* fees in the United States for Stripe are:

  • 2.9% + $0.30 for Credit Cards

  • 0.8% for ACH payments, with a $6.50 maximum

*Fees may vary between platforms and based on locations or other variables.


Where will I see Processing Fees in 17hats Bookkeeping?

You must be using Stripe as your payment processor to automatically see processor fees in 17hats Bookkeeping.

When a client pays a 17hats Invoice, the payment is shown in your 17hats Bookkeeping tab.

Any payments made May 31st, 2025 (at 10 pm Pacific Time) or later will automatically show processing fees in 17hats Bookkeeping.

IMPORTANT: Payments made before May 31st, 2025 (at 10 pm Pacific Time) will not automatically show processing fees and you'll need to log in to your payment processor to review your processing fees.


What do Processing Fees look like in Bookkeeping?

Processing fees will appear as their own line item in Bookkeeping. They are categorized as a Merchant Fee.

Hovering over the paper icon will show the payment ID associated with the processing fee.


Do Processing Fees appear in any Bookkeeping Reports?

Processing fees will automatically appear in your Profit and Loss Report. The fees are categorized under the Cost of Goods Sold and will be automatically deducted from your Total Income.


Please note: this feature is available for Members using Stripe to process payments. It is not available for Members on Lite or Essentials plans.
